Why "Kombra"?

Kombra is a Krio word for mother. The name is a reminder of the women at the centre of everyday life in Sierra Leone — and of the belief that when women have the opportunity to thrive, that strength reaches families, communities and generations.

Women are not only part of our communities. They are at the heart of them. They raise and nurture families, run businesses, trade in our markets, care for the sick, educate the next generation, hold communities together, and help shape their futures.
